R.A.P.

WHAT IS RAP?

Registered Apprenticeship Program is an apprenticeship program for high school students.
Students learn the skills of a trade while earning high school credits.
Students get paid as they complete a major portion of the 1st year apprenticeship hours.

What is an apprenticeship?

It is a way to learn a career in one of the 52 trades.
Apprentices work for 10 months (1500 hours) then go to school for eight weeks for three or four years depending on the trade.

Who should apply to RAP?

  • Students who want to get a one-year head start on a career in a trade. Most students finish most of their hours for first year by the time they graduate so they have a 10 month head start.
  • Students who learn well through on-the-job training and want a career where they work with their hands.
  • Students who plan to earn a college diploma or university degree and who also want a ticket in a related trade have a recipe for success.
  • Students who want a way to pay for a post-secondary education (and have a back-up career too!).
  • Earn high school credits and a pay cheque at the same time. 125 hours of work = 5 credits.
  • Choose a trade they are interested in and become indentured rather then having no choice of trade when they have graduated high school.
