Principal's Message

It’s hard to believe that November is upon us and with nearly two and a half months under our belts the students and staff are nicely settling in for what promises to be another successful year at J. Percy Page High School.

The first few months at J. Percy Page have been incredible. The students and staff are absolutely amazing! We have had numerous activities and events thus far and the positive atmosphere at Page is wonderful. I was particularly pleased with the turnout at our Awards Evening and Parent/Teacher Interviews that were held over the past few weeks. Our Remembrance Day Ceremony on November 10th was one of the best that I have experienced over the past few years. I want to commend the students on the respect that they showed for our military veterans both past and present. Well done!

Our Student Leadership, SU, and Athletics teams have provided exciting events and incredible results thus far. Events such as Panther Pride Week, the Terry Fox Run, the Halloween Haunted House, Diwali, and the Grad Garage Sale, to mention a few, have been very successful events. On the Athletics front, our Panthers have been extremely busy with tournaments and league play and the results have been extremely positive!! Panther Football is alive and well as we were crowned City Champs!!!

As a school we are committed to student achievement, so we believe that providing parents with timely information will be most beneficial to the success of your child. SchoolZone is up and running and the response from students and parents has been very positive. Your child’s attendance can be checked and monitored daily and course marks are available on SchoolZone. Deadlines for major assignments, projects, and exam information will also be posted on SchoolZone. Discussing your child’s progress and setting goals for the next few weeks leading up to the Christmas break is a great way to provide support and give your child something to focus on as the semester draws to a close in mid- January.

If you have not yet signed up and registered, please do so as soon as possible, by contacting Cheryl Mulder in the main office. SchoolZone is an excellent communication tool that we hope to be able to use more and more throughout the year to provide pertinent school-related information.

The 2011-2012 Executive of our J. Percy Page School Council and Parent Advisory Association has been formed. I am extremely pleased with the commitment of our parent group and I encourage you to take advantage of being a part of this vital parent group. The School Council/PAA meets the third Tuesday of every month so if you are interested in being a member of the J. Percy Page School Council, I invite you to attend our next meeting.

I am looking forward to a great finish to the first semester and as always, I welcome and encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns in regards to your child’s educational experience at J. Percy Page.

All the best,

Bryan Radmanovich

2012 High School NAIT Culinary Challenge with the Canadian Culinary Federation

J. Percy Page has been invited to and accepted a spot in the 2012 high school culinary challenge on February 4, 2012.  There are only 13 teams allowed to compete in this challenge.  This is an honor to have such a team opportunity.  Training and practices will be commencing in December of 2011.   A team of three students and an alternate will be chosen to compete in this challenge and represent our school.  The team will then compete in the 2012 Skills Canada challenge held at a later date.  The skills competition can go all through all the way to a world championship challenge if they advance through several stages of competitions!

Panthers Movember Team Has Raised $1,392
During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in Canada and around the world. With their “Mo’s”, these men raise vital funds and awareness for men's health, specifically prostate cancer. The PantherMoBros have to date raised $1,392.00 in support of Movember, and are also sporting some excellent mustaches. Please visit http://ca.movember.com/mospace/2585986/ to donate and check out some nifty upper lip hair.
